Klimax Solo 800

The Linn Klimax Solo 800 is a new flagship monobloc power amplifier from the esteemed Scottish audio manufacturer Linn. This model represents Linn's latest foray into high-power, passively cooled monobloc amplifiers and they are aiming to set a new standard in audio amplification.

Key Features and Innovations

Adaptive Bias Control: One of the standout features of the Klimax Solo 800 is its Adaptive Bias Control technology. This system continuously measures and adjusts the bias current for each transistor in real-time, ensuring optimal performance and minimising distortion. This is particularly important for Class AB amplifiers, where maintaining the ideal bias current is frequently drifting from the ideal point set at manufacture due to a large number of factors such as age, heat, or individual transistor variance.  This action is crucial for reducing crossover distortion and maintaining sound quality over the amplifier's lifespan.

Utopik Power Supply: The amplifier is powered by Linn's new and innovative Utopik switch-mode power supply, which is designed to deliver high power output with exceptional efficiency and stability. The Utopik power supply features precision-regulated, independently isolated power rails, capable of delivering a maximum of 2kW. This ensures consistent voltage levels and minimizes electrical noise, contributing to the amplifier's clean and stable performance even under varying loads and mains input.

Performance and Sound Quality: The Linn Klimax Solo 800 delivers an impressive 800 watts into 4 ohms, 400 watts into 8 ohms, and 1.2kW into 2 ohms. This power, combined with the amplifier's low distortion and noise levels, allows it to drive even the most demanding loudspeakers with ease. Our experience with the demonstration model that we have has been overwhelmingly positive.  The power available allows it such fantastic control and openness that it gives the source every ability to perform at its peak.

Design and Build: Weighing in at 27kg (59 lbs), the Klimax Solo 800 features a robust design with a back-lit roundel on the fascia, which indicates the amplifier's status. It is available in black-anodised or natural silver anodised finishes, ensuring it fits aesthetically within various hi-fi setups. The amplifier's internal components are optimized for heat management, utilising large surface area heatsinks to maintain cool and efficient operation.

Conclusion

The Linn Klimax Solo 800 stands out as a remarkable achievement in audio amplification, blending advanced digital and analogue technologies to deliver truly exceptional performance. Its innovative features, combined with robust power and elegant design, make it a top choice for people seeking the very best in high-fidelity sound reproduction.

The Klimax Solo 800 amps cost £37,500 each and are available to listen to at Grahams now.  We cannot recommend enough coming by to have a listen!
