Project Story
CEDIA Awards Entry 2012 - Best Integrated Home
Project overview
The home was being completely renovated and extended so we had a great opportunity to make sure it was fully wired for technology for both now and in the future. It was a project we entered in for the CEDIA 2012 awards for best integrated Home under £100,000 and for Best Media Room under £15,000.
Project in detail
The client was very design conscious and lighting played a major part of the design which would require good control. The family home required TV and AV systems throughout and the master bedroom was a key location for a large screen system. Grahams installed Lutron Homeworks throughout and Control4 to provide systems integration and automation.
Entrance Hall:
Lighting is a key part of this spectacular home. Low energy linear LED is used throughout and is controlled using a Lutron Homeworks lighting control system.
Main Reception Room:
The main reception room has Bowers & Wilkins in-ceiling speakers. LED in-floor uplights highlight the automated curtains, which are controlled from the Lutron System.
Family Playroom:
The family playroom includes a full surround system. All speakers are built-in and the majority of equipment that is not regularly required is in the store room behind the TV. Note the use of ceiling uplighting that provides great illumination and is fully controlable.
The cabinet below the TV houses only the games consoles and blu-ray player and, to finish off the effect in the room, colour change LED lighting allows for any colour to be created.
Media Room:
The majority of lighting in this room is created by the linear lighting running around the back of the couches. This is fully dimmable and gives a beautiful effect without having to use numerous downlights.
The Loewe TV is on a pull out bracket so it can be angled towards the kitchen and dining area. Control of AV and integrated systems is from an iPad or Control4 hand control. Note the way the table is illuminated , providing ambient lighting in the room.
Library:
One of the most stunning rooms in the home. Linear LED lighting was fitted into the shelving to light the books beautifully and with a stunning effect.
Kitchen & Dining Area:
Bowers & Wilkins in-ceiling speakers provide the music, fed from Linn DS streaming devices. There is also extensive use of T5 linear fluorescent lighting, which can all be dimmed and is energy efficient.
Master Bedroom:
This Master Bedroom is a beautiful space and not only a place for sleeping, as well as relaxing. The bedroom design is almost colonial and as you will see from the pictures there is no really easy place to put a large screen TV.
The client is a film lover and wanted a large screen projection screen to watch movies as well as TV. The projector is hidden in the dressing room and projects neatly through a hole in the wall above the bed. The projector screen was carefully chosen to be virtually silent so as to disturb our client if it was switched off during the night. Also, when the projector screen is retracted neatly into the ceiling, you would never know there was a high quality surround sound system also installed into the room.
Ensuite:
The ensuite includes music, as well as a waterproof TV set that is set into the marble wall.
